Behind the gears M1ndseye: educational assets you can count on

I Made It for My Own Three Kids.

M1ndseye started as worksheets I made with love for my children. I put their names on the pages, filled them with things they were curious about, and kept them motivated with a goal chart. Before I knew it, I could see the difference in their handwriting.

I've spent over 20 years as a graphic designer, including work on exhibits at the Museum of Science, Boston, where I designed tactile programming tiles that let visually impaired visitors program a hedgehog. Their approach to universal design, removing obstacles so learning works for everyone, is the heart of every M1ndseye page.

If I can leave the world a little better educated, and buy parents some much-needed quiet time, that's a good thing.

For parents

Your Love Don't Cost a Thing.

It's tempting to motivate kids with toys and candy. But research links heavy reliance on material rewards to more materialism later in life. Kids remember experiences, not stuff.

Try rewards like these instead:

  • Quality time: extra reading, a board game, a cuddle.
  • Special privileges: pick the movie or stay up a little later.
  • Experiences: the park, the zoo, a beach day.
  • Making things together: bake cookies, plant a garden, draw a picture.

The Cotton Ball Jar

  1. Pick a family goal together: a zoo trip, a new trail, the ice cream shop.
  2. Every time your child helps without being asked, listens the first time, or works on the skill you're practicing, they add a cotton ball to the jar.
  3. When the jar is full, go celebrate!

It rewards good habits and teaches kids to work toward a goal. Pair it with the free goal chart and reward tickets above.
